Please flush

That's all I want to say. If you use a campground bathroom, please flush when you are done. I'm tired of going in and not being able to use it. Even my kids now are getting grossed out. Thanks! I feel better.

RE: NE USA Adventure

I think Jay has a good idea. Start in NH/ Maine and work your way south. You can fly into Manchester, NH and rent from Campers Inn in Merrimack, NH (not too far from the airport.)

RE: Need Grill Suggestions

Be sure to buy the grill spray and if you use BBQ sauce, put down foil. Otherwise, your entire grill will be ruined. There is a slight teflon coating that comes off with too much scrubbing. Lesson learned--don't let anyone else use your brand new grill.

RE: Michigan - need help with finding a campground

We love Tahquamenon Falls in the UP.

RE: NE USA Adventure

We live here in New England and all the campgrounds are open until Columbus Day. We have camped as late as Halloween weekend. In fact, September is one of the best times to be here! Must see: Boston, Cape Cod, Newport, RI, Towns along the Maine Cost (Kennebunkport, Camden), Bar Harbor / Acadia National Park, White Mountains/ Lakes Region of NH. A lot depends on what you want to do. Many will say go to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. It's a lot of money to go over. We swam in the ocean last year on Columbus Day. Wouldn't want to do it in Bar Harbor, but southern Maine and the Cape are still mild. I agree--if you have never driven in Boston, don't attempt an RV through the city. PM me if you need more info.

On the cape in Brewster, MA--Shady Knoll or Sweetwater?

Two kids, two grownups, like bikes, hikes, playground, and beach. Your input is appreciated. Thanks!

SE Maine CG Suggestions Please

Anybody have any suggestions for a family-friendly campground in Southeast Maine? We have done Bayleys and Powderhorn, but may want to try something new. Preferably within one hour of Portland. We have a pop-up camper. Two adults, two boys (ages 4 and 9). Thanks for any help!

RE: Dry Rub for steaks

We love this recipe. It is a coffee rub. http://www.foodreference.com/html/j-coffee-stk-72406.html It's similar to the one at the Common Man Restaurant in the Lakes Region of NH. I would do a little less pepper than you think you need. Following the common man's lead, we also melted some butter and white chocolate together and drizzled it on when cooked.

RE: Your hometown favorite Hamburger and Hot Dog place! Pics!

Just hit Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger in Ann Arbor. Amazing. Got yelled at and everything. Here in North Andover, Mass, we have a place called Harrison's Roast Beef. You get a thin-sliced roast beef sandwich and a box of greasy fries. You go there to hear the workers call out their secret code in wicked Boston accents (it's legendary), but the sandwiches are to die for. We recently go together with a friend in Michigan who went to Harrison's at our wedding 11 years ago. He said he still dreams of it. Another friend of mine comes to town occasionally, and hits Harrison's before seeing anyone.

RE: broken cable in folding trailer

Ouch. We had to replace it last summer. It broke while popping up at a campground. Needed to borrow a tent. Cost about 300 dollars to replace.

RE: How beneficial is a slide out dinette?

We don't have a slide-out and wish we did. If you want to check, go to an RV show or the dealership and get everyone in your family inside. Then, have the two largest people try to pass each other. You'll quickly decide it's well worth it.

RE: Ever been to one of those campgrounds.....

Our best camping (and first one together) story yet-- We stayed somewhere near Sarasota, FL (can't even remember--it's been twelve years!) DH and I had been dating less than a year. Two northern city college kids camping in the South. He went to the bathroom and I unpacked the food. As I put the tupperware full of cheerios on the picnic table, a huge raccoon came out of the woods and jumped up on the table, grabbed the Cheerios, went behind the bush, opened the container and started shoving Cheerios in his mouth while looking at me with those creepy little eyes. I was screaming. He came back from the bathroom and the people next to us are laughing hysterically at me. I'm yelling, "I am not staying here with these evil raccoons!" Guy next to us leans up against his pickup truck, pulls a shotgun off his gun rack, points the gun at the raccoon, and says, "I got me a gun. You want me to take care of it?" We barely slept that night with the gun-happy guy next to us and the snorting boar that charged our tent at 3 am. It's amazing I ever went camping again!

RE: Lake Superior circle tour in mid-late September

Be sure to do the Soo Locks and the Pictured Rocks Boat tour. Awesome. We stayed at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in UP Michigan. We loved the campground. Very clean and well-maintained. Plus, the falls are awesome.

RE: Roasted Twinkies---YUMMMMM

Steve B, I was thinking of doing the biscuits! My mother used to have melted butter in one bowl and cinnamon sugar in the other. When cooked, dip in butter, dip in sugar--homemade donuts! Must go camping soon. Twinkies, smores, homemade donuts...drooling thinking about it!!!

RE: planning a trip in old orchard maine

Take advantage of the campgrounds that offer the free shuttle to the beach and the boardwalk. Bayley's is great. We also like Poweder Horn--three pools, plus a shuttle.

RE: Gi-normous Ziploc Bags---Love them!

I am able to fit two pillows in one XXL bag and I fit a twin sized comforter in one. If I lie down on it as I start sealing, the air leaks out and it acts like a vacuum bag (a little bit). Glad to see they'll be helpful! Cara

RE: Thinking of getting a PUP - have questions

My back LOVES being off the ground! And, I love going to sleep knowing that I won't be floating in my tent (has happened before). What you will love most is that most of your things will stay in the pop up, and if you do it right, you can decide last minute to go and only need to pack clothes and food. Start with a used pop up. You can get a really nice preowned one for not too much money. In a few years, trade up.

RE: Sway Bar

We have it no matter what. If an 18-wheeler blows by you, you'll definitely feel it! Even hitting a few bumps in the road could have you feeling sway. You can't predict what the roads will be like and the last thing you want is to have your SUV in the median strip and your pop up in the breakdown lane, both upside down. Like the previous poster said, it's an insurance policy. You wear a seatbelt even if you don't expect to be in a crash. You need the sway bar for road conditions, things in the road, things driving by you, and stopping quickly, even if you are not planning on those things happening. Safe travels!
